Water Quality 4/15/14

A cold front came through last night, so today was really cold, windy, and rainy.  Subsequently there was a pretty large drop in water temperature.  The salinity also was a little down, probably due to the rain.  What I found interesting was the increase in absorbance and cell density.  The increase may have been growth in between my last water sample and the cold front, however I think it is much more likely that the algae was already there, but had been stirred up by the wind and choppy waves.  Which makes me wonder about the location of my oysters.  Perhaps it is too shallow, since algae is possibly sinking to the bottom.  Or perhaps the area is too shady, and the algae came from the marsh.
